Albert HOLDEN, son of Thomas HOLDEN (c. 1844-c. 1903) and Emma BROCK (c. 1851-c. 1935), was born on 15th June 1893 in North Lopham, Norfolk and was baptised there on 3rd September. There is limited information on Albert's military service. He enlisted in the army on 29th March 1915 at Norwich, and on the 31st March assigned to the Army Service Corps. He was taken on with a trade of baker but was found to be unfitted for the duties of the Corps and was discharged from the A.S.C. on 7th April 1915. From the C.W.G.C. entry it appears he must have been transferred to the Queen's [Royal West Surrey] Regiment.
